Riders Gear Up For Arab League Championship |
Bahrain's national showjumping team are in the UAE capital today preparing for the Abu Dhabi Arab League Championship, which gets underway tomorrow and continues until Saturday.
The event, which also acts as a qualifier for World Cup Showjumping under the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI), brings together some of the Arab world's top showjumping national teams.
Bahrain are taking part with a squad of six riders. They include Bahrain Showjumping Committee vice-chairman Shaikh Hassan bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Basil Al Dossary, Khalid Al Khatry, Yasser Al Shaikh and veteran Sami Ghazwan.
The team competed in the Dubai Arab League Championship earlier this month and achieved promising results.
"We're looking forward to competing in Abu Dhabi," Shaikh Hassan told the GDN.
"We are a very young team and this is the first year Bahrain has joined the Arab league. We don't have very high expectations in terms of results, but we all do our best and we're always looking to continue to improve at every event we take part."
Shaikh Hassan will be competing in the Abu Dhabi event with his new horse, Aladdin, which competed at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. Aladdin already reached the UAE after being transported from Holland.
Bahrain's team members will today carry out the final veterinary checks on their horses and begin warming up for tomorrow's start of action. |
