Diricx Triumphs In Senior Class |
Benny Diricx, riding Al Khalidiah Mikaela, won the seniors class 'B' competition yesterday in the Breef Showjumping Championship, held at the Mounted Police Centre grounds in Budaiya.
The event was organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) and its showjumping committee, and was held under the patronage of Breef president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Diricx emerged victorious in the day's main category (fences of 110cm to 120cm) after registering a time of 38.89 seconds in the jump-off.
Salem Ali, riding Amira Coska de Toeufles, was the runner-up in 39.18s, while Samia Al Saffar on Lambrusco Greenfield finished third in 47.71s.
Abbas Isa Mohammed Hussain on Eurocommerce Balisano was fourth with a jump-off time of 36.28s but with four penalty points, while Tawfeeq Jaber Ali Al Qattam on Desert Flame was fifth rounding out the jump-off riders with a 56.67s mark and 17 penalty points.
In the seniors class 'C', with fences 90cm to 100cm in height, Jassim Isa Al Qattan riding Kuwait finished in first place with clear round of 41.36s.
Ali, who was runner-up in the 'B' category, once again narrowly missed out on a victory. He came second behind Al Qattan in 41.46s, also with no faults. Ali was again riding Amira Coska de Toeufles in the class.
Finishing third was Sayed Adnan Al Alawi on Al Khalidiah Fais Moi Rire. Al Alawi had a clear round mark of 43.99s to take the final place on the podium.
Others to finish among the top riders from the category's 42 entrants were Mahesh Amritlal on Pascal (44.57s) in fourth, Dr Mohammed Chena on Wansharees (45.17s) in fifth and Abdulaziz Al Rumaihi on Grannus (46.16s) in sixth place.
In the two juniors classes, Oscar Lauri was the star of the day. Riding Emily in juniors 'B' (fences 100cm to 120cm), Lauri took the first place trophy after a clear jump-off round of 30.28s. Sophie Alice Appleton on Al Khalidiah Fais Moi was second in 34.17s, while Juliana Cortes on Urasche came third in 36.23s.
Lauri added to his win by taking second place in the juniors 'C' category (fences 80cm to 90cm). He finished behind Abdulkarim Chena, who won on Wansharees with a time of 29.14s in the jump-off. Lauri, riding Galopin, took the runner-up spot in 29.44s.
Laura Louise Wilkie came third on Zain Al Batal with a mark of 30.48s. All three riders had clear rounds in the jump-off, as did Hussain Ebrahim Al Afoo on Muhajer who finished fourth and Andrew Scopes on Porphyry in fifth.
In the championship's first class of the day (fences 70cm to 80cm) open to both senior and junior riders riding green horses, 11 out of 23 had clear rounds. They included Amelia Boyd on Dilmun Tayar, Kate Addison on Persy, Hebe Lanyon on Mandella, Al Qattam on Al Khalidiah Senora, Hussain Janahi on Dilmun Polo, Andrea Gowdy on Dilmun Tess, Florence Finzi on Miss Print, Yaqoob Yusuf on Sea Biscuit, Katherine Spink of Dilmun Tess, Jalal Akbar Ghuloom on Domino and Elyas Mohammed Hussain on Ghayth.
Following all the action, the awarding ceremony took place with the top riders in each category receiving trophies and a share of the BD2,000 total prize purse, except for the open class participants. All those competing in that category who had achieved a clear round received a rosette. |
