Diricx Pulls Off Double Triumph |
Benny Diricx claimed a fantastic double yesterday in the Breef Showjumping Championship held at the Mounted Police Centre grounds in Budaiya.
Riding Al Khalidiah Mikaela, Diricx overcame a talented field that included several Bahrain national team members to claim a victory in the Adults 'A' class. That added to his win in the Adults 'B' category, and capping a superb performance in the highly competitive meeting, organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (Breef) and held under the patronage of Breef president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
In the Adults 'A' section, Diricx registered a winning time of 63.48 seconds to top the two-round event that featured fences 130cm to 140cm in height. He had just four penalty points in his ride.
Sami Ghazwan on Fairooz came a close second, finishing in a quicker time of 56.46s but ending his performance with eight penalty points. Shaikh Hassan bin Rashid Al Khalifa riding ARG Reinette was an impressive third. He had a time of 68.35s but was penalised 10 points.
Diricx also came fourth in this class, riding Airforce One to a time of 71.89s and 10 penalty points. Juan Fernandez de Mesa took fifth and sixth place, riding Tarzan and Iman De Olid, respectively. Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa on Chocolate was seventh, while Khalid Hilal Al Khatri on Stacal rounded out the top eight.
In the Adults 'B' accumulator competition (fences 110cm to 120cm), Diricx took first place after ending his ride in 37.88s and with 65 points.
Jassim Isa Al Qattan was the runner-up on Al Jazira Kuwait in 40.31s, while Tawfeeq Jaber Al Qattan on Emmaville Cool came a close third in 40.67s. Both riders also had 65 points, as did the rest of the top 10.
Basel Mohammed Aldoseri on Rangerino finished fourth, Diricx on Airforce One again among the top participants in fifth, and Maxime Moxon riding Osina in sixth. Aziz Khalifa Abdulla on McMurphy and Bassim Mahdi on Al Jazira UFO completed the best eight.
In the Adults 'C' category, Hani Ali Hassan Al Yabis was the victor. He clinched the one round against the clock event (fences 90cm to 100cm) with a clear round of 42.38s. Dr Mohammed Chena on Wansharees was second in 43.70s, just narrowly finishing ahead of Ali Essa Ali Jawad on Al Khalidiah Senora, who finished in 43.80s. Both riders also had zero penalties.
Meanwhile, Oscar Lauri had a fine showing in yesterday's two junior events. Lauri first took the winner's and runner-up spots in the Juniors 'C' class, before taking third and fourth place in the Juniors 'B'.
In the 'C' competition (fences 80cm to 90cm), Lauri steered Galopin to first place with a clear round of 32.87s in the jump-off. He then guided Emily to second place with a clear round of 33.55s. Abdulkarim Chena on Wansharees took third place in 35.05s.
In the 'B' section (fences 100cm to 110cm), Juliana Cortes on Urasche took the victory after beating Hadi Ebrahim Al Afoo on Ricky Taki Tafi in the jump-off. Juliana had a clear round of 29.40s, while Al Afoo clocked a quicker mark of 25.18s although with four penalty points.
In the championship's last category open to both adults and juniors riding green horses, seven achieved a clear round - Hussain Mohammed Dadulla and Jawad on Al Khalidiah, Elyas Mohammed Hussain on Al Katoob, Danah Abdulla Al Wardi on Muhajer, Mahmood Ghuloom Abdulredha on School Spirit, Kate Addison on Persy and Dadulla once again on Privilage.
The winning riders were presented their trophies and other prizes by Bahrain Showjumping Committee chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Breef secretary general Ghalib Al Alawi in the presence of other officials. |
