Diricx Reigns Supreme |
Benny Diricx clinched first and second place in the seniors 'A' class yesterday on the first day of the Breef Showjumping Championship at Mounted Police Centre in Budaiya.
Riding Al Khalidiah Airforce One, Diricx won the two-round competition (fences 130cm to 140cm) in a time of 61.18 seconds with five penalty points. Diricx then took the runner-up spot with Al Kahlidiah Mikaela, whom he steered home in 60.01s but with eight penalty points.
Diricx came away with a total of BD620 in prize money for topping the category.
Sami Ghazwan on Fairooz finished third in 54.28s but with 12 penalties. Juan Fernandez de Mesa took fourth on Tarzan in 57.74s, and then also took fifth riding Iman De Olid in 58.27s. He finished each ride with 20 penalty points.
In the seniors 'B' class (fences 110cm to 120cm), Khalid Hilal Al Khatri on Bashayer took first place with a clear round of 27.67 in the jump-off.
Ali Essa Ali Jawad riding Al Jazira Leonardo was the runner-up in 27.82s, while Sayed Adnan Al Alawi on Al Khalidiah Fais Moi Rire came third in 28.66s.
Diricx was once again among the top finishers, riding Al Khalidiah Pascal to fourth place in 29.17s. Salem Ali on Al Jazira Amira Coska De Toeufles rounded out the top five in 29.49s.
Each of the top finishers had clear rounds in the jump-off, and all came away with prize money.
In the seniors 'C' competition (fences 90cm to 100cm), Fahad Jamal Taqi on Aesops won with a 25.27s time in the jump-off. Salman Essa Salman on Twiligth Athae was second in 26.28s, while Ciara Maria Stolwyk riding Colorado came third in 27.37s.
Yahya Ahmed Abdulhasan on Zahed (28.24s) and Abdulaziz Khalifa Adam on McMurphy (22.29s) completed the top five.
Meanwhile, Saad Abdulla Saeed on Crafty Trust and Helen Blake on Merlin had clear rounds in the seniors green competition.
Competition continues today with four classes for junior riders. The championship is being held under the patronage of Breef president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa. |
